stanley cup final game 3

with the series tied 1-1 both teams hit the ice determined to to take the lead and be one step closer to the stanley cup. unfortunately, our golden knights weren’t ready for what washington was bringing to table on home ice. we’ll keep this short and simple but lets take a look at what happened….

1st period:

in just 5 minutes the capitals already got one past marc-andre fleury but it was called back due to a goal tender interference by devante smith-pelly. the rest of the period would be goalless as both teams played great defensively.

2nd period:

this is where the momentum began to shift in favor of washington and the golden knights just weren’t able to make something happen against the defensive play of the capitals. in less then two minutes, the capitals created chaos in front of the golden knights net and got shot after shot on goal. at 18:50, ovechkin was able to find the back of the net during the chaos off a beautiful backhand giving the capitals a 1-0 lead. it seemed like the entire period our beloved knights were having trouble connecting passes. with 7:10 left the capitals broke up a pass opportunity from shea theodore and headed down the ice with a three on one man advantage. with a quick flick of the wrist, evgeny kuznetsov sends one past fleury and gives the capitals a 2-0 lead heading into the final period of play.

3rd period:

it took some time, but the golden knights were finally able to close the gap in under five minutes of play when bellemare intercepts a pass from goalie braden holtby and sends a beautiful one timer to tomas nosek who scores his third goal of the stanley cup. with the score now 2-1, it looks like the knights have a fighting chance to tie this game up and go into overtime. it was at 6:07 when all hope was lost for game two when smith-pelly drills a one timer to the back of the net and gives the capitals a two goal lead for the second time.

the capitals are now up 2-1 on the series and we still have one more game in washington before heading back to our loyal fans in vegas. with plenty of series left and the majority of the games at t-mobile arena, the golden knights know its time to knight up and show this city what they are playing for! we are more than just a hockey team, we are vegas strong!
